Review of CHINASSL2006

3rd China International Forum & Exhibition on Solid State Lighting (CHINA SSL) had been held in Shenzhen on July 12-14, 2006. Major contents of the 2006 conference covered Forum, Exhibition, National SSL Innovation Contest, Workshop and "New Technologies, Equipment, Products and Materials Release".

The "CHINA SSL" is authorized by China Ministry of Science and Technology, and co-organized by the Governing Committee for China Solid State Lighting, China Illuminating Engineering Society and China Association of Lighting Industry to facilitate the development of solid state lighting industry in both China and the world. The annual event has been held since 2004 and already become a well-established and influential SSL event.

The 06 forum had received many supports from leading SSL organizations from world-wide. Senior managers from Cree, Osram, Philips, Toyoda Gosei and LG as well as experts engaged in draft of national SSL program in United States, Japan and Korea had made great contributions devoted to the forum. Ma Songde, Vice Minister of China Ministry of Science and Technology, had also attended the forum and made a keynote speech on "Development Forecast and Government supports to China SSL Industry"

Total 524 delegates had attended the forum while 105 are overseas delegates. And there are 74 high quality papers out of total 102 received contributed to the forum from variety countries and regions include United States, Europe, Japan, Korea, Singapore, China Taiwan, China Hongkong and China Mainland. The scope covered government program, technologies of each industry chain, market, investment and Intellectual Property et al. The forum had grown to be an international influential event.

Feng Jichun, Senior office from China Ministry of Science and Technology, had moderated the opening ceremony while vice minister Ma Songde announced the opening of exhibition. 156 Exhibitors in total from domestic regions like five national industrial park, Hongkong Science Park and Yangzhou as well as overseas regions such as Aixtron, Veeco, Scientech and Cree et al. had attended the exhibition. The exhibition had attracted near ten thousand audience and extensive communications made between exhibitors and audiences. High praise had been given that the exhibition was an excellent professional event and it provided a good platform for communications and cooperation. Some of 08 Olympic stadium construction organizations also attended the exhibition.

Organizing Committee had received 67 contest works from 44 organizations. The scope of works covered R&D innovations of raw materials, chips and packaging as well as novel LED products and engineering applications. 9 experts from each industry chain and lighting design areas had evaluated received works and 13 of them are listed as high level ones (3 R&D innovation, 5 products innovation and 5 engineering application innovation) in national-wide. The contest had also received great supports from Ministry of Science and Technology and involved SSL organizations.

Two Technical Workshops and "New Technologies, Equipment, Products and Materials Release" were opened on July 12 to warm up atmosphere for the opening of forum. Two of activities were held at the first time and received many positive feedbacks from delegates. They said that the contents of speech were novel and with broad scope. Most of speakers came from international top research institutes and companies. Over 250 delegates had attended the two activities and the atmosphere was very warm and interactive. Many delegates had expressed their willingness to attend the conference in the next year.
